Barbara Joan (Brauer) Davis, age 76, of Des Moines passed away on November 16, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on November 20 at Brooks Funeral Care South Town Chapel, 7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321. Visitation will take place on November 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Barbara Davis was born on July 19, 1934 in Des Moines to Carl and Mary Brauer. She was a member of the East High Marching Band and Orchestra and graduated in 1952. Following her education, she married Robert E. Davis and to this union, five children were born: Kimberly, Karen, Karol, Katherine, and Greg. She was employed by Younkers, Sears, Richman Gordman, Northwest Fabrics, Johnson Machine Works, and the lunchroom service for the Des Moines school system.
Barbara was a member of the Greater Iowa Aquarium Association, Unity Lutheran Church, and the Daniel O' Donnell Fan Club. Barbara was a Campfire Girl's leader and volunteered her time as a teacher's aid at Stowe Elementary. She was a campaign worker for Ronald Reagan. Barbara compiled scores for the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and Peace Officers pistol tournaments. She was the team mother of the Bobcats, an East Des Moines girl's softball league team.
Those to cherish her memory includes her husband, Robert of 57 years; children, Kimberly (Mark) Taylor of Perry, IA, Karen (Scott) Shields of Liberty Center, IA, Karol (John) Easter of Des Moines, IA, Katherine (Jim) Brauer of Dallas, TX and Gregory (Alice) Davis of Kirskville, MO; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Robert Brauer and Donald Brauer.
