Carol Marie Arslaner, 67, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away at home on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, April 7 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Carol's family will greet friends beginning at noon. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens.
Carol was born in Peoria, Illinois to Carroll and Marie Holcomb on December 27, 1943. She married Mel Arslaner on January 21t, 1967 in Oak Forest, Illinois. She graduated from Northern Illinois University and received her Master's Degree from the University of Illinois. In 1976 the family moved to Des Moines as Mel became a professor at Drake University. In addition to being a mom, she spent her career working as a geriatric social worker for Beverly Enterprises and several Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Institutions, most currently at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home and Senior Suites of Urbandale.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carroll Holcomb and mother Marie Holcomb.
She is survived by her spouse and soul mate of 44 years, Mel Arslaner; children, Brent (Tricia) Arslaner of San Francisco, California and Kent Arslaner; brother, Frank (Hunter) Holcomb of Gadsden, Alabama; grandchildren, Sloan and Elle Arslaner; nephew, Daniel Holcomb.
