Carol Sampson Fox
Carol Sampson Fox, 96, of Northfield, MN died January 31, 2013. She was born in Gilman, IA, the fifth daughter of Mathilda and John Sampson, and was immediately nicknamed Bobby.
A high school basketball player, Bobby was chosen for the state All-Sectional team. She graduated at age 16 and attended Grinell College, graduating in 1937. At Grinnell, she met and later married Edwin L. Fox.
Bobby was active in both League of Women Voters and the Iowa Human Rights Commission. Later, when Ed was employed in the Philippines and Indonesia, she enjoyed teaching English. She was an enthusiastic traveler, bird watcher, reader and grandmother. Bobby had a phenomenal memory and delighted friends and family by reciting scores of poems she had learned when she was young. She was a consummate letter writer and kept in touch with friends and family all over the world.
Bobby and Ed retired to Northfield in 1983. She was devoted to education, and, with Ed, helped establish college scholarships for deserving students.
Preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Edwin, Bobby is survived by her daughter Susan McKnight (William), her son, Stephen (Bunny), grandchildren Carol McKnight (Wayne Dilling), Roger Fox (Shelly), David McNight, and great-grandchildren Jordan and Anna Fox.
