Dale L. Mitchell
Dale Leroy Mitchell, 69, of Ankeny passed away June 27, 2013 at the Veteran's Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral Services will be held 1:30 p.m., Monday July 1, 2013, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.), with burial at Ankeny Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 30, also at the funeral home.
Dale was born November 26, 1943 in VanMeter, Iowa to Dale and Frances Mitchell. He was raised on a farm in rural Madrid, Iowa, and graduated from United Community High School of Boone, where he excelled in track.
He was married to Corinne Bruce in 1966, and then attended Boone Junior College.
Dale joined the army in 1968 and served his country in the Vietnam war, and earned a Purple Heart award.
After returning from Vietnam, he went back to school at DMACC, where he was Vice President of the Student Body.
He later went to work for Mel Lint at Polk County Heating and Cooling, where he worked for 40 years.
In 1984, he married Kelli Porter, and together had a son, Jacob.
He enjoyed all things outdoors, including bow hunting for deer, fishing, and gardening.
Dale is survived by his son, Jacob, of Ankeny, two brothers; David (Cherylin) Mitchell of Boone, and Eugene Mitchell of Schleswig, two nephews, two nieces, and his close friend Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
