David Ewoldt Obituary

David Glen Ewoldt

St. Louis, MO, Formerly of Paullina

David Glen Ewoldt, son of Roy (deceased) and Marilyn (Hedin) Ewoldt was born on October 22, 1964, in Cherokee, IA. Two sisters, Laurie and Holli, and one brother, Bill, welcomed him home. He was educated in the Paullina Community Schools, excelling in music, and graduated from high school in 1983. David attended Iowa State University, majoring in Business Administration and Telecommunicate Arts. He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho, honorary arts fraternity. During college, Dave worked for Minksy's Pizza in Nevada, IA, and continued after college, eventually becoming manager. In 2000, Dave left Iowa and moved to St. Louis, MO. He was employed by a commercial cleaning business until 2009. In March, 2010, he began classes at L'Ecole Culinaire in St. Louis and in August, 2011, graduated with highest honors and was elected as a class ambassador. A trip to Italy with his classmates, leaving on November 9, and a job as a chef was in his future. Unfortunately, health complications arose, and he died on November 3, 2011, in St. Louis, reaching the age of 47 years, eleven days.

David is survived by his mother, Marilyn of Paullina; sister, Holli Safley and her husband, Bill of Peterson, IA; AFS brother, Jan Henry Melhus of Stavanger, Norway; brother-in-law, Dick Keyser of Houston,TX; Uncle James and Aunt Jo Ann Ewoldt of St. Louis, MO; nieces, Dr. Allison Keyser, Kristen Meinzer, Melissa Ewoldt and Erin Safley; and nephews, Roy W. Ewoldt, Matt Safley, and Derek Meinzer. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy; sister, Laurie Keyser; brother, Bill Ewoldt; and his grandparents. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, IA, on Saturday, November 12, 2011.
