Dean Herman Iverson, 89, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of heart failure. Dean was born in Lake Preston, SD on September 1, 1923 to Herman and Doris Iverson.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, August 5 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, August 4 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with family present from 2 to 4 p.m.

Dean graduated from Indianola High School. He served in the United States Army during WW II and received a Purple Heart. He was united in marriage to E. Ruth McGahery on December 21, 1947. After his time in the service, he graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, continuing his education at Colorado State where he received a Masters Degree. He taught school in Waukon and Indianola where he retired from in 1985 after teaching for 32 years.

Dean is survived by sons, Paul of Rochester, MN and Gale (Melody) of Indianola; sisters, Lorna Iverson of Indianola and Carol Sue Edgington of Kalamazoo, MI; brothers, Daniel Clair of Ames and Gerald of Kernville, CA; four grandsons, a step-granddaughter and three great-grandsons all of MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Iverson; daughter-in-law, Sheryl Iverson and his parents.
