Donald A. Dennert


Donald A. Dennert, 88, of 1305 Parkside Drive in Boone, Iowa passed away at the Boone County Hospital in Boone and went to be with his Lord on Thursday afternoon, January 17, 2013.

He was born on June 27, 1924 in Boone, Iowa the son of Robert and Anna Dennert.

On October 12, 1945, he married Virginia Ellen Hall in Boone.

Don was a 1942 graduate of Boone High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army in the Pacific Theatre from 1943 to 1945

Don began his career with Fareway Store in 1940, working in Boone, Ames and Algona before becoming the store manager in Estherville. In 1973, he moved to Boone where he served as a Supervisor and was Vice-President of Personnel until his retirement in 1989. From 1973 until 1989, he served on the Fareway Board of Directors.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church. His life was dedicated to serving his Lord.

His parents; wife Virginia in June of 1987; two brothers Walter and Robert; and one sister Victoria Dennert Moulton preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son, Donald A. Dennert, Jr. of Estherville, Iowa; three daughters Linda Dennert of Carroll, Iowa, Julie Samson and husband Tim of Boone, Iowa and Mary Jane Haugland and husband Doug of Johnston, Iowa; five grandchildren Chelsea Clark and husband Jared of Boone, Iowa, Brandon Haugland and his fiancé Dani Willis of Johnston, Iowa, Teejay Davidson and fiancé Bret Carlson of Boone, Iowa, Morgan Haugland and Dylan Haugland both of Johnston, Iowa; four great-grandchildren Chloey Davidson, Jaydon Clark, Armor Haugland and Oscar Carlson; one brother John Dennert and wife Mary of Freemont, Nebraska; and one sister Ann Dennert of Boone, Iowa.

Services will be held on Wednesday morning, January 23rd at 10 a.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Boone with Pastor Daniel Grell officiating.

Interment will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Visitations will be held at the Evangelical Free Church on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with the family present during that time to greet friends. Visitations will continue at the Church on Wednesday morning from 8:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct their gift to the Evangelical Free Church or the Boone County Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Department.
