Edwin R. Pagliai was born August 6, 1931 in Des Moines, son of Attilio and Elvira (Montorsi) Pagliai. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 29, 2013 at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with a rosary service beginning at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, 650 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines, with burial following at Glendale Cemetery.

Edwin was a 1949 graduate of East High School and attended Simpson College for 3 years. He served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Edwin attended Drake University for 1 year. He married Natalie Schaffer on August 16, 1952.

He was a retired commercial Real Estate Broker and owned Metro Realty for over 40 years. Edwin was an avid golfer for many years, and when he was younger he enjoyed playing City League baseball and was also a Little League coach.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the Vittoria Lodge. Edwin was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Edwin is survived by his wife of 61 years, Natalie; his children, Debra (Mel) Thomas of Pleasant Hill, Diane (Lloyd) VandeLune of Clive, Edwin II (Melissa) Pagliai of Des Moines, Michael (Michelle) Pagliai of Ankeny, Kurt (Gina) Pagliai of Waukee, Kim Parks of Olathe, KS, and Christopher (Shannon) Pagliai of Ankeny. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, Zach (Nicole), Lacey (Jason), Natalie (Lee), Jeff (Shanda), Todd (Jennifer), Kristen (Lars), Edwin III, Victoria (Cory), Nicola, Haley, Zane (Nicole), Blake, Tyler, Kate, Nash, Peyton, Sophia, Olivia, Colby, Megan, Abbey and Emma; 16 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert Pagliai; sister, Alma Durrenberger; and an infant brother, Valentino. His legacy will live on through his 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
