Melcher-Dallas
Mass of Christian Burial for Ervin "Penny" Schneider, 87, will be Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Melcher-Dallas. Family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas with a Rosary Service at 6:30 p.m. Interment at the Bauer Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Melcher-Dallas Fire and Rescue or Hospice of Central Iowa. Online condolencesmay be made to www.pierschbacherfuneralhome.com.
Ervin "Penny" Schneider was born September 23, 1923, to Victor and Myrtle (Spaulding). Penny farmed and hauled coal in the Melcher-Dallas area in the early 60's. He worked at the Melcher-Dallas Lumberyard, Bingham Feed and Grain, and dug graves by hand for over 40 years. He is the only one that dug his own grave and kept it in the top of the garage until he needed to use it.
Penny enjoyed square dancing, frequent trips to Kansas to visit his friend Betty Scheve, and playing with his great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing solo.
Penny passed away March 24, 2011 at the Pleasant Care Center in Pleasantville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva; daughter, Marge Gass; son, Harold Schneider; and siblings: Ed Schneider and Evelyn Capaul.
He is survived by daughter, Bert (Bob) Warrick, and son, John (Diana) Schneider; son-in-law, Harry Gass; daughter-in-law, Debbie Schneider; six grandchildren: Laurie Goff, Patricia Russell, Jeff Schneider, Josh Schneider, Jennifer Schneider, and John Paul Schneider; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings: Catherine Schurman, Rosemary Babcock, Raymond Schneider, and Herman Schneider.

Papa Penny was a great man and will be missed by all! I am very sorry for everyone's loss especially Joshua John and Jenny Jeff John and Diana. Love you guys!
