Frances L Chapman, 92, of Des Moines, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk.
Services will be held at Brooks University Chapel, 7975 University Blvd in Clive on Thursday, August 23 at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband John in Osceola, Iowa.
Frances was born September 1, 1919 in Des Moines to Joe and Lula Smith. After graduating from East High School in 1937 she met and married John W Chapman in June of 1940. They were lifelong residents of Beaverdale. Frances worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 31 years, retiring in 1984.
Frances enjoyed many hobbies both before and during her retirement years. She loved music and played the organ for many years with the Critchett's Organ Club. She was a great cook and baker, and took much pride in sewing and crocheting many hats and blankets for local friends and people in need. Her grandchildren were a great source of joy in her life as was her faith and many friends at First Federated Church where she was a long time member. Her greatest fulfillment in life was her philosophy of giving, with that she was prolific.
Frances is survived by two sons, Roger (Lynda) of Johnston, Dave (Karen) of Norwalk, two granddaughters Kari (Travis) Luedtke of Norwalk, Kelly Chapman of West Des Moines, and two great grandchildren Ashley and Owen Luedtke of Norwalk.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John who passed in 1974, and a sister.
