Harold Carl Manders, 92, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010 at Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center. Private family burial will be held at Waukee Cemetery in Waukee. His family will receive friends from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Monday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.
Harold was born June 14, 1917 in Waukee, the son of Roy and Agnes Manders. Harold graduated from Waukee High School and attended the University of Iowa for two years. Hal played professional baseball for three years for the Detroit Tigers. He then returned to his home in Waukee and continued farming. On September 14, 1939 he was united in marriage to Marabel Cross of Evansville, Indiana. Hal was very active in politics and the Republican Party. Recently, a wing was donated to the Waukee Library and dedicated as a museum in honor of Harold.
Harold is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marabel of Dallas Center; his son, Bob and wife Linda of West Des Moines; his sister, Betty Griffith of Stuart and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Clopton.
