Henry (Hank) Earl Thomas

Des Moines

Henry (Hank) Earl Thomas, age 67 of Des Moines, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ, dying of complications caused by cancer on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Hank was born on August 26, 1946 in Keosauqua, Iowa to Henry A. and Nina (Moore) Thomas. He was a 1964 graduate of Saydel High School and married his lifetime companion Linda (Wolver) on May 24, 1968. Hank proudly served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967 - 1971. After his tour with the Navy, Hank started his career as an electrician with Local 347 in Des Moines and retired in 2006 after 34 years in the trade. Hank was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting mushrooms, fishing, and spending time with his grandkids.

Hank is survived by his wife, Linda, his children, Barry (Angie) of Ames, Randy (Stacey) of Urbandale, and Kathy (Rick) Boozell of Des Moines, seven grandkids, as well as his siblings, Shirley (Bill) Sprague, Dixie (Chuck) Riley, Bob (Karen) Thomas, and Janet Northway (Jim). He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Audrey.

In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to the family or to Safe Call Now, a non-profit organization giving hope to public safety employees in crisis. Donations to Safe Call Now can be made at www.safecallnow.org.

At Hank's request, no services will be held but he will eventually be entombed at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
