Herman Grund Obituary
Des Moines
Herman Grund, 92, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2011 at the VA Hospital Community Living Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born March 5th, 1919 to Wolf and Fannie Grund.
Herman served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from October 1941 to October 1945. He saw action in the pacific theater at Eniwetok Atoll, Saipan and Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, Herman worked for Midwest Bag Company until 1953 when he decided to open his own television repair business called ABC Television Sales & Service. Once retired, Herman enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his Sunday morning coffee club. His favorite hobby was bowling, which he did into his late 80's. Herman was very proud to participate in the November 2009 Hy-Vee Iowa Honor Flight that allowed him to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, DC.
Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Carr) Grund. Herman is survived by his two sons, Larry (Diane) Grund of Urbandale, Marty (Marti) Grund of Des Moines; grandchildren, Michael Grund, Jennifer Grund, Alexis (Jerry) Bednyak, Jordan Grund, and Tanya (Jon) Pierce; great-grandchildren, Kenadee Pierce and Ava Bednyak. Special thanks to his loving companion, Dolores Kimbro and her family.
Services will be graveside at noon on Tuesday, November 8 at Glendale Cemetery-Beth El Jacob Section.
In lieu of flowers, Herman's family suggests memorial contributions in his name to Beth El Jacob Synagogue, 954 Cummins Pkwy., Des Moines, IA 50312.

As a young boy who grew up in Urbandale, I often visited Herman at his TV repair shop and he was always so nice to me and took the time to always visit with me. After all these years you never forget a kind face like Herman's. God Bless
