Jean Leone Carpenter Griffin was born October 5, 1937 to Melville LeRoy Carpenter and Loretta Krienke Carpenter in Owatonna, Minnesota. She graduated high school in Owatonna and attended Hamline University School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minneosta where she obtained her Registered Nurse degree in 1960.
On June 5, 1965 she married John R. Griffin of Des Moines, Iowa. She began her nursing career as an obstetrics and gynecology instructor at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and ended her career some forty years later as a nursing home inspector for the state of Iowa.
She was an active and avid antiquer, especially with the Red Wing Collector's Society of Red Wing, Minnesota. She compiled the only known documented history of Beaverdale, Iowa, entitled "The Spirit of Beaverdale" which is now part of the state historical library.
She spent the last years of her life at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa, where the residents became her family. She passed away December 5, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John.
A Celebration of Jean's life will be held Monday, December 17, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Memorial contributions may be made to Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota.
