John Wade Wattleworth, 78, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013. He worked for AT&T for 32 years, then McFarland Clinic in Ames, IA for twelve years until his retirement. His greatest loves in life were his family, playing Santa Claus, and fishing. Our special thanks to his nieces and nephews, Ann and Mike Wattleworth and Cathy and Todd Schmidt, for making his last fishing trip so memorable.
John is survived by his wife of 28 years, Roberta; six children and their families, Kathi Dillon and Kelly Barrows, both of Wickliffe, Ohio, Ken Wattleworth of Hambden Township, Ohio, Kirk Wattleworth of Tucson, Arizona, Adam Wattleworth of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Ashley Wattleworth of Omaha, Nebraska; his sister, Lynne Long of Maitland, Florida and his best friend and hunting buddy, Ole Skaar of Story City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Wattleworth and a brother, Jim.
Per his request, there will be no funeral. A memorial service will take place at a later date in Cleveland, Ohio. The body was cremated and the ashes will be held until the death of "the love of my life", his wife Roberta, at which time her ashes will be mixed with his for eternity. Memorials may be directed to Make-A-Wish Foundation. John was comforted to know that any gifts given in his memory would help a sick child.
The family wishes to thank the staff and providers of Trinity Center at Luther Park for their compassionate care of John for the last four months.
