Justin Martin Obituary
Urbandale
Rockwell City - Justin S. Martin 24, of Urbandale, formerly of Rockwell City, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from injuries sustained in the line of duty as an officer of the Urbandale Police Department. Funeral services will be 11:40 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the South Central Calhoun Middle School Gymnasium in Rockwell City, with Pastor Anita Bane officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the South Central Calhoun Middle School, Rockwell City. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City.
Justin is survived by his parents, Randy and Jayne Martin of Rockwell City; his brother Ryan Martin of Rockwell City; maternal grandmother Ann Margaret Krommendyk of Cherokee; paternal grandparents, Gene and Carolyn Martin of Redfield; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfather Bernard Krommendyk; and cousin Karah Thompson.
Justin Scott Martin was born July 14, 1992 at Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Rockwell City/Lytton High School, with the Class of 2011. In 2015, he graduated from Simpson College in Indianola with a criminal justice degree. Justin also graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy with the Class 265. In August of 2015, he became a police officer for the Urbandale Police Department. Justin was a member of the United Methodist Church, and an Eagle Scout.

Sincerest condolences and sympathy to all of you. We did not know him but feel connected through the law enforcement family. Our son attended the services as a representative of our Police dept here in Nebraska. It is a strong bond they all share and a level of respect and support like no other. Always remember the pride of seeing Justin get his Eagle Award, his degree, the graduation day from the Academy and of seeing him in his uniform as he did the work he loved.

We r here in Sioux City Iowa mourning with you. We have 6 grandchildren in t area that your son helped keep safe.., He truly had a purpose. We are thankful for him. May God bless you at this difficult time. You are not alone. God is with you even if it is hard t understand now. Mr. Martin, Mrs. Martin, and Ryan I send my deepest sympathies and all my prayers to you all. I never personally met Justin but after moving to Des Moines for college, I have always felt safer knowing the police kept and continue to keep a close eye on Drake University. I am honored knowing that Justin was part of the reason I felt so comfortable in a place so different from home. My deepest condolences again.

Please know you are in my thought and prayers during this difficult time of loss and as you prepare for the funeral service of your beloved son and brother. Justin was confirmed into the Rockwell City United Methodist Church April 1, 2007 while I was serving there. I fondly remember him as a fun loving and mature youth who had a strong committed love for Jesus Christ and a high energy for ecumenical and servant ministry. With his love for peace and justice it is no wonder that for his occupational career he chose to be a police officer. I will be with you is spirit and prayer on the 8th and I especially ask God to enfold you in his healing grace and peace.

I met Justin at the Indianola YMCA. From the very beginning I was impressed by this young man. He just seemed to stand head and shoulders above 'the rest'. In fact I was there the day he came out dressed in his suit to go for his police interview and wished him well...later thrilled that he had been accepted because I just knew he would be an excellent police officer and it was what he wanted to do with his life. After he had been accepted into the academy I would be working out in the pool and look up and see Justin working out in the weight room. I admired this young man, he inspired me, and I am stunned by his fate...yet, he inspires me still. Prayers are sent on behalf of his parents, family, and friends....
