Larry L. Kussatz


Larry L. Kussatz went to meet his Lord on July 2, 2012. He was born on July 1, 1945 to Elmer and Hazel (Simons) Kussatz. Larry graduated from Allison-Bristow High School in Allison, Iowa in 1963 and later from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa in 1967 where he majored in vocal music.

Larry taught vocal music at Forest City High School and then at Central High School in Waterloo, Iowa.

In the late 70's, he became the owner of Carver's Restaurant in Waverly, where his reputation for fine food, hospitality and singing wait staff was widespread. Larry joined Sysco Food Services of Iowa as a Marketing Associate in early 1990 and was later promoted to District Sales Manager. He continued as Brand Manager until retirement in September of 2008.

Larry is survived by his son, Brad Kussatz, who is currently serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; his sister, Karen (David) Pierce of Waterloo; his brother, Roger (Joan) Kussatz of Cedar Falls; sister-in-law, Evon Kussatz of Lincoln, Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Kent and his sister, Monica.

Larry shared his passion for music with family, friends and several churches where he served as organist, director of music and director of vocal music.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Larry Kussatz will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 8, at Westkirk Presbyterian Church, 2700 Colby Woods Drive in Urbandale, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Westkirk Music Department.
