Leo C. Durbala, 79 of Mesa, AZ, died Saturday, June 22.
He was born to Joseph Durbala and Veronica (Gergely) Durbala, March 14, 1934 in Lovilia, IA. He married Mildred (Flattery) Durbala in 1956 and they lived together in Des Moines before retiring to Mesa in 2000.
Leo's career from childhood involved all aspects of the car and truck business, but the handyman business he started in his retirement was where he received his most satisfaction. Leo had a huge smile for everyone he met. He loved golf, NASCAR, wearing shorts, Iowa tomatoes, smoking ribs, his best friend Pippa but most of all "his three girls".
Leo is survived by his wife, Millie, daughters Renee (Marc) Harris, of Kelley; Julie Reeves, of Windsor Heights; grandsons Lee and Cody Harris, of Ames; sister Teresa (Jim) Bishop, Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews that meant so much to him.
A celebration of Leo's life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Urbandale, IA. Memorials may be made to the Reeve Foundation, 636 Morris Turnpike, Suite 3A, Short Hills, NJ 07078 for spinal cord research or online at www.ChristopherReeve.org/donate.
