Lorraine Eva Gilbertson Gisvold, 93, the world's best chocolate chip cookie maker in the eyes of her family, died Monday, July 30, in Des Moines, Iowa. Lorraine was one of nine children raised on a North Dakota farm. She was 100% Norwegian-unassuming, deeply devoted to her family, enjoyed life's simple pleasures, and always found the positive in everything. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church. She married Don Gisvold in Minneapolis in 1937. Don died in 1981. A woman of many talents, she was a seamstress, test baker, golfer and a former member of the Boone Golf and Country Club, and a Life Master bridge player. She is survived by her four children; Dean (Susan), David (Barbara), Susan Fritz (David), and Dale (Susan) and her sister Pearl Troftgruben. Lorraine had thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, August 2nd at 10:30 a.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel at 4400 Merle Hay Rd in Des Moines. Internment and a private family service will be held at a later date at the Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis. Memorials may be directed to the Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa or Hospice of Central Iowa.
