Marjorie J. Armstrong

Des Moines

Marjorie J. Armstrong returned home to her beloved Lord and His son, Jesus Christ, on Friday April 11, 2014, at Wesley Acres Retirement Home.

Marjorie was born October 9, 1922, in Des Moines to Carl and Ruth Mussetter. She was the oldest of their three daughters. Her middle sister, Maxine Mussetter, died in 2008, and her younger sister, Marilyn Card, resides at Wesley Acres.

Marjorie graduated from North High School in 1940, from Stephens College in 1942 and worked for Equitable of Iowa for two years before her marriage to Arthur Eric Holm. They had two children, Leigh Ann and Rick Holm. Marjorie and Arthur were divorced in 1962.

Marjorie re-entered the business world at Bankers Life in 1961 as a secretary. She later worked in the personnel department as head of clerical hiring, in what is now Principal Financial Group. She retired from Principal in1987 after 26 years.

Marjorie married for a second time in 1986 to Fred Armstrong. The next fourteen years were happy ones for Fred and Marge. They had time to travel in the United States and Europe, to spend time gardening and to enjoy their blended family.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Leigh Lussie; her son, Rick Holm (Julie); grandsons: Jeremy (Lindsey), Jason (Charlotte), and Maxwell; a step-son, Kevin (Patty); step-daughter, Joan; step-grandchildren: Ashleigh and Courtney; great-grandchildren: Graham, Hayden and Evelyn and a niece and nephews.

Marjorie's body has been cremated and her ashes will be scattered as she requested. An informal gathering of family and friends will take place on Sunday, April 13th from 2-3 pm in the Chamberlain House, Wesley Acres, 3520 Grand Avenue to remember Marjorie. Anyone wishing to remember Marjorie may make a donation to the Wesley Acres' Good Samaritan Fund.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff on the second floor health services of Wesley Acres for the compassion, kindness and excellent care she has received over the past year. You are all greatly appreciated.
