Mary Catherine Diehl, 90, passed away on January 28, 2011, at Legacy Point in Waukee. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 1 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Rosary service at 7 p.m., Monday evening at Brooks Funeral Care (7975 University Blvd., Clive).

Mary was born July 13, 1920, in Dubuque, IA, to Harry and Olga Gleason. She was united in marriage to Charles Diehl on February 4, 1946. After raising her five children, Mary returned to Briar Cliff and received her teaching certificate. She taught for several years in the Sioux City and Des Moines Communities as well as DMACC. Mary served on the Mercy Nursing Scholarship Committee, was involved with the St. Theresa Altar and Rosary Society, RCIA, was a Girl Scout leader, and volunteered for the homeless. She enjoyed traveling, teaching, reading, tutoring, and working with several charities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; three sisters and two brothers.

Mary is survived by her children, Kathleen (Bill) Tordoff of Frisco, CO, Mike (Linda) Diehl of Arvada, CO, Trish (Jack) Thompson of Aberdeen, WA, Tom (Michelle) Diehl of Clive, IA and Rob Diehl of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Mike (Karleigh), Amy, Chad (Jen), Matt, Anthony, Michael, and Sally; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Adam and Aidan; and brother, Thomas (Ginnie) Gleason of Ft. Collins, CO, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa Health Hospice or to Catholic Charities.
