Maxine Tiernan, 94, died on Friday, May 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. A Memorial Mass will be held 7 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial of the cremated remains will be at Beaver Catholic Cemetery in Granger at a later date.
Maxine was born on November 26, 1917, in Moran, Iowa to Edward and Gertrude (Wilson) Comer. She grew up in the Granger/Moran area, graduated from Assumption High School and married Patrick Tiernan in 1938.
Maxine worked for many years at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, retiring in 1982. She was a huge sports fan, especially the St. Louis Cardinals until they traded Albert Pujols.
Maxine is survived by her children, Theresa (Gary) Mockus of Urbandale, Judith Tiernan of Urbandale and Edward (Pam) Tiernan of Bluffton, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Patrick, and ten siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Assumption Catholic Church in Granger.
