Pete as he was known by family and friends, was born August 16, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, to Peter J. Sr. and Helen Rimkus Brent. He grew up in Chicago and graduated from Blue Island High School, with the class of 1956. Shortly after graduating, Pete enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. During this time he was stationed Camp Pendleton, CA., Memphis, TN., and Jacksonville, FL., as a Structural Mechanic on aircrafts before being honorably discharged on April 16, 1958. After being honorably discharged, Pete returned to Chicago. He was united in marriage to Ardeth Hawley, on March 14, 1959, in the Menlo United Methodist Church and together they became the proud parents of two children. In 1960, the family moved to the Stuart area to farm until moving back to Chicago. While in Chicago, Pete worked for United Airlines before taking a job selling insurance. Through the years the family also lived in Elgin, Illinois and West Des Moines, before making their home in Stuart, in 2001. Through the years, Pete returned to farming, he drove an over the road truck, and was very proud to be employed for the Prairie Fire Rural Action group throughout the country during the farm crisis. During the farm crisis in the 1980's, Pete and a friend drove their tractor to Washington DC to bring awareness to the country of what the US farmers were facing at the time. He also was very proud to go to the Ukraine and help the area farmers set up their farming operation and help teach them how to operate modern farm equipment. Pete was proud to receive his two year college degree when he was 56 years old. Pete was a member of the Marie Corp. League . He enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, reading, watching country western movies, and spending quality time with his beloved family and friends.
