Peter Maldonado, 79, died at the Urbandale Health Care Center on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, from complications of Frontal Temporal Dementia. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waukee, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the ceremony. Burial will be at Prince of Peace Cemetery, Pine Grove, Wisconsin at a later date.

Peter was born to Pedro and Maria Luisa Maldonado on December 14, 1934, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. In 1944, he and his family moved to New York City to be near their relatives. For nearly seventy years, Peter devoted his life to either going to school or working toward and earning several degrees: B.S., M.S., PhD, MBA and CPA. For fourteen years he was an associate professor of chemistry at Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD and for twenty-two years, he was an associate professor of business at the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD and the University of Findlay, Findlay, OH.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa, his children Anne (Greg) Carlson, Johnston, IA; Mary (Matthew) Mills, Anchorage, AK; and Peter, Nashville, TN. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Matthew Carlson, Lincoln, NE; Michael Carlson, Mankato, MN; David Mills and Sarah Mills of Anchorage, AK; and by his brother, Robert Maldonado of San Carlos, CA. He was preceded in death by one brother who died in infancy and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, Peter requested that memorial contributions go to the family for distribution to the food pantry or directly to Helping Hands of St. Louis, 443 - 6th Street, Toledo, Ohio 43605.
