Ronald "Barney" Conder, 83, passed away from lung cancer October 15, 2012 at his home. Per his wishes, he has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Barney was born October 13, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Nellie (Worth) and Lewis Conder. Following graduation from Ottumwa High School in 1947, he joined the Army and served his country in the Korean War.
Barney worked as a controller for AY McDonald's and Peerless Supply. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He was also a member of VFW Post 9662 in Des Moines.
Surviving Barney is his wife of 61 years, Erma (Parr), married August 1, 1951; his children: Terry (Vicki) Conder of Omaha, NE, Sue (Chet) Muehlenthaler of Ankeny, Cindy Degeus of Oregon, Dr. Tom Conder of Texas, Tim (Karen) Conder of Florida, and Julie Thompson of Georgia; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and another on the way; step-sister, Barbara Cernitiech; half sister, Georgia Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Miller; and brother, Robert Conder.
