Ronald Gene O'Brien joined his beloved wife Marilyn on March 8, 2013 in Ankeny, Iowa. His interment in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery will be at 12:30 on March 11.

He was born May 1, 1929 to Joseph and Betty (Turner) O'Brien in Ottumwa, Ia. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deborah, sister Rosemary, brother Robert, son in-law Jerry, great grand-daughter Amaiya, and wife Marilyn.

He is survived by his three children; Rebecca O'Brien-Buch and her children; Melissa and Kristopher Kiger; David O'Brien (Vicki) and their children; Travis and Deborah; and Meghan O'Brien-Cluver (Aaron) and their children; Connor, Sophie, and Keller. He is also survived by four great grandchildren.

Ron spent years as a businessman and community leader in Fairfield, Iowa while married to Beverly Johnston(O'Brien) with whom he had three children. He served as a chairman of the United Fund, president of the Walton Club, state president of the Iowa Jaycees, and national vice president of the Jaycees.

Ron and Marilyn (Myers)O'Brien married February 26, 1974 and owned their own businesses and delighted in bringing people joy through the companionship of a pet. They raised a daughter in Dubuque and retired near their children and grandchildren in their later years.

Ron was always an active man with a love of sports, politics, and community service. He served as a private first class in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne.

Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Dubuque Regional Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
