R.W. "Rudy" Berg

West Des Moines

R.W. "Rudy" Berg, 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 9, 2013. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2013 at the West Des Moines United Methodist Church with a visitation from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery at a later date.

Rudy was born in Minneapolis, MN on February 10, 1929 to Carl and Clara Berg. After high school he served in the Navy during the Pacific Theater. Following his service he received his degree in accounting and worked for Northwest Iowa Power in LeMars. Later he was the Assistant Manager of Southwest Federated Power in Creston.

Rudy and his wife of 62 years, Geraldine "Jerry" Bogen of LeMars, founded ITA Group, Inc., a corporation which structured sales incentives and motivational awards for fortune 500 companies. ITA Group currently has offices in 12 major cities throughout the country and employs over 550 people. Rudy retired in 1993 as Chairman of the Board following heart by-pass surgery.

He was active in the community and devoted his time to numerous organizations. Rudy was a member of the Drake University Athletic Advisory Board, a past State Board Member of the Iowa Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Downtown Kiwanis and past Chairman of the Iowa Wine Board.

For the past several years he worked closely with Iowa Methodist Hospital as a visitor/counselor with patients primarily in the cardiac floors, ICU and C.C.U. His real passion was providing trust, faith and compassion to those struggling with numerous medical problems. Rudy was very active in the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Chancel Choir, where he enjoyed singing in the Men's Chorus and Christmas Cantatas.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Jerry; children, Dr. David Berg of Johnston, Daniel (Jodi) Berg of Spirit Lake and Kim (Rick) Stageman of Norwalk; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Methodist Hospital or the Iowa Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
