Ryan William Heithoff, 27, of Ankeny, Iowa entered into peace March 30, 2012. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Iles Funeral Home-Grandview Park Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the funeral home. Burial will be Thursday, April 5, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
Ryan's self-acclaimed and most treasured accomplishment was giving life to his sons, Isaac and Isaiah. His smile was never wider than when he was playing with his boys.
He was a Private First Class in the 3rd Infantry Division of the Army who bravely served as a scout in Iraq during the first wave of the war. He was injured in battle multiple times and awarded the Purple Heart. He received high commendations from his command and was honorably discharged.
Ryan is survived by his parents, Rita Heithoff-Holt, Mark Heithoff, Mark Crawford, and Rick Holt; sons, Isaac and Isaiah Heithoff; brother and sister, Josh and Abbey Heithoff; stepbrothers, Mike and John Holt; grandparents, Jim and Jan VanDee and Eugene and Margaret Heithoff; many other family members; support network at the AA; and friends. His quick humor, desire to play practical jokes, and ready laugh will be missed by all who knew him. At family gatherings he often sported Georgia Tech, Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bears jersey's just to razz those who favored other teams.
We bid farewell with the words of his staff sergeant: "I would take him as a member of my squad anytime and fight side by side with this soldier any day."
In lieu of flowers please take action today to help support our veterans. Perhaps you'll consider a donation to America's Vet Dogs in whose mission Ryan believed.
