Verne E. Curtis
Verne E. Curtis, 91, passed away September 13, 2013 at Calvin Community. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 17 at Iles Funeral Homes - Westover Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Norwood Cemetery, Lucas County, Iowa.
Verne was born on February 9, 1922 to Olin and Alice Curtis in Norwood, Iowa. After high school he moved to California and worked for Rohr Aircraft. He returned to Iowa in 1942 and married Margaret Ashby.
Verne worked for David Mattson Co. for 24 years. He started as an outside salesman, and was president of the company when it was sold. After the company sold, he worked for Kex Auto Parts as vice president and general manager. Those five stores sold in 1981. He worked as an outside salesman for KR Business Brokers from 1981 to 1984. He took early retirement when their son, Mark became ill with Hodgkins Disease.
Verne enjoyed boating, fishing, golf and nature. He had a quick wit and a contagious sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Mark. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret; his brother, Vic (Ardys) Curtis; two nieces and eight nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
