Wayne Russell Whited


Wayne Whited, 92, passed away July 15, 2012. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 19 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd., Des Moines.

Wayne was born February 7, 1920, in Martinsville, MO, to Thomas and Ruth Whited and was one of nine children. Wayne served in the Army during WWII. He retired from JI Case Company in Burlington, IA, after more than 25 years as a maintenance painter. Wayne and Faye resided in Burlington where they raised their family before moving to Urbandale. Wayne will be remembered as a gentle and kind person who loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball teams. Wayne enjoyed remodeling projects and could fix anything. He was a devoted Christian and was a member of West Des Moines Christian Church Disciples of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Wayne will be remembered by his wife of 71 years, Faye Whited; four children, Marilyn Kay (Leslie) Wagoner of Phoenix, AZ, David (Carol) Whited of San Antonio, TX, Donna Steele of Urbandale and Sheila (Garland) Barton of St. Charles, MO; seven grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one sister, Dorothy Henley. Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
