William P. Rose
William Patrick Rose, 83, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born in Duluth, MN and moved to Des Moines in 1961 to become the head golf professional at Wakonda Club. He left Wakonda in 1969 to better care for his growing family, and he began a long career in life insurance sales. He continued teaching golf and was the head golf coach at Drake University from 1972 through 1978. For the past two decades he volunteered his time and talent with the Dowling High School golf team, and was instrumental in helping them win eight state championships. In 2006 he was inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame. That same year he began giving golf lessons at Wakonda Club, which continued until last fall.
Bill touched the lives of many people and he will be remembered fondly for his modesty, wisdom, humility, patience, dry sense of humor, passion for golf, and love for his family.
Bill is survived by his wife, Robin of 53 years; children, Chris of Anchorage, AK; Tim (Roselyne) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; Brian (Marianne) of Atlanta, GA; Julie (Matt Garvey) of Des Moines; Terry of Des Moines; Dan of Seoul, South Korea; Katherine of NYC; Molly (Paul Heuwetter) of NYC; grandchildren, Isabella, Jameson and Cecilia; brother, Bob; and sisters, Margaret and Bonnie.
The family will receive friends at St. Augustin Church for a 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. memorial visitation with a 7 p.m. vigil on Thursday, February 21 and a 10:30 a.m. memorial mass on Friday, February 22.
