Death Notice


Fort Campbell, KY

A Time of Remembrance will be held for Lt. Colonel Robert F. Baldwin, 39, of Fort Campbell, Kentucky, formerly of Viola, IL, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 30, at the Eliza Community Center, Eliza, IL. The funeral and burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Lt. Colonel Robert F. Baldwin died on September 21, 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom when the helicopter he was in crashed in Zabul Province, Afghanistan.

Memorials may be made to his children.

Lt. Colonel Baldwin was born on August 11, 1971, in Rock Island, IL, the son of Gary and Cherie Baldwin of Eliza, IL. He graduated from Sherrard High School in 1989. He graduated from Western Illinois University in 1993 with bachelor's degree in Industry Technology and a minor in military science. He was also a member of Western's Reserve Officers Training Corps and was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1993. He entered the U. S. Army in February 1994. He married his wife Danielle on June 23, 2001. Lt. Colonel Baldwin received a MMAS from the School of Advanced Military Studies and a Masters in Adult Education from Kansas State University in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Danielle Rausch Baldwin and children, Rachel (8), Keegan (4), Meaghan (3), and Patrick (7 months) of Clarksville, TN; his parents, Gary and Cherie Baldwin of Eliza, IL; his sister, Laura (Tracy) Deemer of Lacona, IA; his grandmother, Bernice Baldwin of Warroad, MN; and his grandmother, Wilma Walker of Kalona, IA. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Francis Baldwin, Warroad, MN and Floyd Walker, Kalona, IA.
