Stanley "Skip" Petts


Stanley "Skip" Petts, 66, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 22, 2014. A Celebration of Life service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 26, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4114 Allison Ave., Des Moines.

Skip was born in Niagara Falls, New York to George and Margaret Petts and moved to Storm Lake, Iowa to attend college at Buena Vista University where he met the love of his life, DeAnne Brower. They were married on June 5, 1971.

Skip attended seminary in Dubuque and was a dedicated pastor in various Iowa congregations for 15 years before he and his family moved to Des Moines 25 years ago. He became a gifted educator for non-profit organizations committed to improving the lives of the less fortunate.

Skip will be greatly missed by his wife, DeAnne, children, Heather (Ryan) Hanser, Abigail (John) Griswell, Adam (Jennifer) Petts and David (Jamie) Petts; eight grandchildren and his sister, Jane Ciarfella.

Skip was blessed with many long time friends who were very special to him. He enjoyed Scottish Dancing and was incredibly active at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Throughout his life, Skip was devoted to making a difference in the lives of others.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, at Iles-Westover Chapel. Contributions should be made to the Westminster Senior High Mission Trip Fund. Online condolences will be welcomed at
