John Izzolena, 78, passed away Monday, February 24, 2014. He was born January 27, 1936 to Fred and Lena Izzolena in Des Moines, Iowa.
John went to Lincoln High School. He married Dicta Nielsen on May 10, 1958. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. Returning to Des Moines, he worked as a master carpenter until his retirement in 1998. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. He also had a fondness for animals.
He is survived by his children, Joni (John) Krois of Waukee, IA, John (Denise) Izzolena of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jani (Tom) Campbell of Altoona, IA; grandchildren, Lauren Campbell, Jason (Sara) Campbell, Brad Campbell and Adam Krois; one great grand-daughter, Leila Campbell; and sisters, Helen, Stella, Patty, Lucille and Judy.
John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dicta; his parents; infant son, John Matthew; sisters, Mary, Victoria, Lena, Marguerite, Josephine and Rose; and brothers, Carmie, Jim, Anthony, Alfred and Sam.
Visitation was held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
