June Carol (Libbie) Strong Obituary
June Carol (Libbie) Strong

Windsor Heights

Grandma June left this world on the First Day of Spring at the age of 93 and 7 months. She died at her home with her family gathered around her… it was an amazing journey.

Born June Carol to Vera (Abramson) and Frank Gausche in June of 1920 she grew up, with her three sisters, during The Great Depression, which had a lasting effect on her view of so many things. Her father was a union organizer and then a resort owner. She was married, for a short time, to Jacob Geiger and then met the love of her life in Damon Libbie. They moved to Detroit where she began her career of caring for her husband and two sons, Michael and John. In the mid 1980's June and Damon moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa to be close to family. When Damon died suddenly in 1987 Grandma June returned to Wisconsin for a brief time to care for her aging cousin. Several years later she was reunited with a family friend Bob Strong who had lost his wife. They married and moved back to Michigan and from Michigan to Iowa and back to Michigan. She said, many times, "I've moved my teepee more than anyone I know!" Following Bob's death she continued to live among dear friends in Michigan until moving back to Iowa in the Fall of 2011.

Feisty and opinionated she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A very special "thank you" to the many people who touched her life; the list is truly long and stretches from coast to coast thanks to social media. A friend and family gathering will take place later this spring following interment at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan.
