Rosalene Campbell

Rosalene Jane Campbell, 91, of Waverly, died Monday, March 24, 2014, her 91st birthday, at Allen Hospital-Unity Point in Waterloo, Iowa.

She had lived a long and eventful life filled with love and adventure. She enjoyed her many moves around the Midwest. Home base was West Des Moines where she completed her schooling at Valley High School where she graduated in 1942, with scholastic honors and editor of the high school newspaper. She had lived in addition to West Des Moines, at Manly, Iowa, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, and finally Waverly. At each new home she made new friends quickly and joined the various women's clubs and Methodist churches. In her earlier years she was a long hitter in golf and an excellent figure ice skater.

She was the secretary of the D.A.R. for many years at Waverly and will be sorely missed by the other D.A.R. members. She was also a member of the Waverly Garden Club and Genealogical Society. At the D.A.R. she traced her ancestry back to three members of the Union Army during the Revolutionary War and had received three certificates from the National D.A.R. office verifying her ancestry.

She loved to grow and watch the lovely blooms on her rose garden and the fine heritage tomatoes she grew from seeds many years old.

She is survived by her husband Maurice, daughter Sandra (Douglas) Sander, son Stephen (Glenda) Campbell, five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren and another on the way.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Deborah Coble-Wise officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at the Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
