Theresa M. "Terri" Hockins

Theresa M. "Terri" Hockins, 65, loving sister and aunt, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 31, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Terri was born in Chicago on May 2, 1948 and lived all of her life in Des Moines. She retired from Mercy Hospital where she had worked as a registered nurse for 42 years. Nursing was Terri's passion. She lived her life loving and caring for others, truly putting other's well-being before her own. Her compassion brought many people peace and joy.

Terri generously shared her love, her gifts, and her joy with her family whom she loved. She treasured her time with all of her nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephew who affectionately knew her as Aunt Pela. Each held a special place in her heart. Terri enjoyed traveling and was looking forward to spending her retirement winters in sunny Florida. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her siblings, Karen Hockins, Steve (Linda) Hockins, Peggy Hockins, Kathy (Don) Brees, Joni (Greg) Edwards, Mary Seago, Janet (John) Laws and Jim (Ann) Hockins; nieces and nephews, Jeni, Angie, Mike, Danny, Eric, Ashley, Nate, Annie, Brian, Molly, Jack, Jonathan, Matthew, Kimber, Zac, Maggie, Andrew and Emily; and great niece, Riley; and great nephew, Landon; and the angels to come. Terri was preceded into eternal life by her parents, John and Marilyn Hockins.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at Iles Westover Chapel.

The family has respectfully requested that any memorial contributions be directed to the St. Theresa Foundation or the family, who will later designate gifts to her favorite charities.
