Sao Thao Lee, 70, of Des Moines, formerly of Prairie City, IA, passed away at Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, MN at 7 a.m., March 23, 2014.
Sao was born in Laos on January 8, 1944. She arrived in Des Moines in 1978 with her children and husband, Wangmeng Lee (Former Vietnam War Battalion Commander, special forces.) Sao and Wangmeng have a total of nine children including five daughters and four sons as well as 37 grand and great grandchildren.
Sao was an extraordinary person who loved and gave herself without holding back, to any and all who needed her. She dedicated her life to the well being of her family and friends and gave her life to the will of God. Her effortless love and generosity was unconditional and freestanding. Sao leaves an undisputed legacy of love and kindness that transcends through multiple generations, cultures and boundaries.
The celebration of Sao's life will be as follows:
Friday, April 25 9 a.m. to midnight, Iles Grandview Park Chapel.
Saturday, April 26 9 a.m. to noon, Hmong Cultural Center, 10305 W 135th St., Prairie City, IA
Saturday, April 26 1 p.m. though 8 a.m. Monday, April 28, funeral home.
9:30 a.m. Monday, April 28, Funeral Mass St. Ambrose Cathedral 607 High St., Des Moines followed by burial at Rising Sun Cemetery.
