Thomas Richard Schmitt, 50 years old, passed away on May 14, 2014 after a brief but intense battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
Tom was born and raised in Iowa and graduated with a degree in Transportation and Logistics from Iowa State University in 1982. He immediately went to work for JCPenney, where he spent his entire career in the Distribution/Supply Chain area. His assignments moved him from Salt Lake City to Manhattan, then to Dallas and to North Carolina, and finally back to Dallas.
Tom loved cruising, visiting favorite Caribbean islands, spending time with family and friends, building his little herd of alpacas, watching Survivor, helping anyone research and plan a vacation or car purchase, floating in his pool, listening to Jimmy Buffett, and laughing.
Tom is survived by his wife Kathy and their son Andrew of Flower Mound; his parents Richard and Sandra Schmitt, sister Sheila Schmitt, brothers Dale Schmitt and wife Michelle, Dennis Schmitt and wife Angie, all of Iowa. He is also loved and missed by extended family and many dear friends.
A celebration of Tom's life will be held at Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church, 6101 Morriss Road, Flower Mound, TX at 10 am on Monday, May 19. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Flower Mound Humane Society or another
