Ruth Witte

Ankeny, Iowa

Ruth Witte, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, July 25, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Ruth Elaine Berg was born July 8, 1926 to Victor and Milda (Hegness) Berg in Sioux Falls, SD. She received her Bachelor's Degree in History and Psychology from Augustana College. On August 1, 1948 Ruth was united in marriage to Pier Witte. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls and later Ankeny. They were blessed with seven children; Carl, Elaine, Fred, Sylvia, Janet, Sarah, and Paul.

Ruth's faith was central to her life. Ruth and Pier sang for many years in the St. John's Lutheran Cathedral Choir. Ruth was an Elder at St. John's, a former chairman of the Elizabeth Group, and a member of the Augustana Alumni Organization. She volunteered with Hospice of Central Iowa and St. John's Outreach. Ruth enjoyed traveling, knitting, sewing, crocheting, and quilting. Most of all she loved spending time with her children, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren who all held a special place in her heart.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Des Moines, IA.
