During his time there, he met and married Billie Graham of Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Finch was later assigned to overseas duty and spent a year in Japan, discharging in 1946 at the rank of Captain.

Dr. Finch established a large animal practice in Marengo, IA, but soon moved to Grimes where he practiced for 28 years. Thereafter, he accepted employment as a district state veterinarian in Carroll, IA for another 12 years. In retirement, he and Billie built a house and moved back to Grimes. Dr. Finch was a member of the Grimes American Legion and Lions Club, as well as the Granger Masonic Lodge.
