Blanche Buesteton Van Cura Honeycutt, 102, of Des Moines, formerly of Rockford,
IL, passed away at Calvin Community on July 30, 2014, due to Congestive Heart failure.
She was born on March 25, 1912, in Rochelle, IL, the daughter of Viola (Sontag)
Buesteton and Martin Buesteton. She grew up in Rochelle and graduated from Rochelle High School. She met and married Raymond Frederick Van Cura in 1931. To this union a son Raymond Joseph Van Cura was born. They later divorced. In April of 1947 Blanche and Arland Honeycutt were joined in marriage in Rockford, IL. They celebrated 62 years together until his passing in October 2009.
Blanche was employed at Barber Coleman Company as an executive secretary until her retirement in 1965.
She was a long time member of Second Congregational Church in Rockford and was quite involved in genealogical organizations, which included Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, New England Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Descendants of Ancient and Honorable Artillery, National Huguenot Society of Illinois and Daughters of American Colonists.
Following her husband's death, Blanche moved to Des Moines and became a resident at Calvin Community where she celebrated her 102nd birthday with her family in attendance.
Blanche is survived by her son Raymond J. (Joan) Van Cura of Des Moines, her grandsons Erick (Deanna) Van Cura of Guthrie Center, IA, and M/SGT. Neil (Kim) Van Cura, US Army, of Harriman, TN. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Elizabeth (Matthew) Wehrle, Rebecca Van Cura and friend Steven Schwartz, and Brittany, David and Douglas Myers, as well as one nephew Joel (Mary Jo) Buesteton of Alton, IL and two nieces Ellen Buesteton Brunk of Kahoka, MO, and Lisa (Rick) Statzer of Abingdon, VA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers and one sister.
A private family graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery on Thursday August 7, 2014, with Pastor Robert Spiers of St. John's Lutheran Church of Des Moines officiating.
