Margy was born June 10, 1949, in Savanna, IL, daughter of Graham Thompson and Janice Marie Moyer. She graduated from Maquoketa High School and moved to the Des Moines area. In 1976, Margy married William "Bill" Haluska and in 1978 they moved to Moorpark, CA. She began working for Walmart while they lived in California.
