Brittany Kock Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 8, 2017.
Brittany Rebecca Kock

Johnston

Brittany was our gift from God that had to be returned before we were ready. She was taken from us on March 4, 2017, by the Demon know as Heroin. She struggled for many years with addiction. She wanted nothing more than to be sober and have a normal life but the disease took over. This Disease is ruthless and unforgiving and does not care where you came from or who your family is. We all need to realize that addiction is a disease and start treating addicts accordingly, just as if this is another form of cancer. We hope the unbearable pain we feel will give others the strength to get the help they need so they are not a victim of this horrific disease.

Brittany was born on January 17, 1994. She came in to this world on one of the coldest and snowiest days of the year and the day of the Los Angeles Earthquake. She has been the sunshine in our lives every day since. She loved and was loved by all of her family. She was a loyal friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Sheryl Kock; grandmother, Bettie Nixon; aunts, Debbie West (Rob), Becky Luloff (Lon), Elizabeth Griffin (Glenn), and Sarah Pandullo; uncles, Tony Nixon (Colleen), Larry Nixon (Roz), Eddie Nixon (Sury), Roger Kock (Sue), Frank Kock (Sofie), Dave Kock, and Greg Kock (Bonita); her fiancé, David Caban and children, Ramses and Laina; and many family and friends. Brittany was preceded in death by her grandparents, Anthony Nixon, Larell and Catherine Kock, and Archie and Diane Pandullo.

Services will be held at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with visitation on Thursday March 9 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the funeral service on Friday, March 10 at 10:00 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to help individuals suffering from addiction to have access to treatment.

Brittany is never forgotten her smile replays in my mind I'm sure as it does in everyone's. I don't care if anyone judged her I didn't. I knew who she was inside without that garbage. Too many great ones lost to this addiction. I had been a heroin junkie for along time... after seeing so many close to me gone I made a move to new surroundings and ppl. It has been working so far and I pray that someday we won't see all the amazing people takin from this addiction. So many times it could have been me and so many times so close. It is truly the devil and it's crazy how an epidemic can take so many so fast and takeover. I prey all of it slows down. There's too many good people that have been over taken by this monster. Anyways I love you sis still on my mind

My heart breaks for your loss. Please know that Brittany, your family and all her friends with be in my family's prayers. As Brittany's teacher in middle school at St. Theresa I remember her infectious laugh and the joy she brought to the classroom. May Brittany rest in peace.

My heart hurts for the family and friends. Although I did not know her, I read her obituary and I commend the family for their truthfulness about her addiction, yet told the human side of a wonderful gift they had been given. This had to be helpful to so many others who have gone through the same thing but felt the truth couldn't be shared. I truly am sorry and know this horrible loss with much mourning will be very long lasting. But continue doing what you have been doing and keep sharing so many wonderful memories of Brittany.

I am so sorry for your loss of Brittany. Words sèem to say so little to express the sentiments that others feel for the family as you try to cope with this difficult time. May God comfort and strengthen all of you. He cares about you and understands your sadness. He will help you to get through each day.

So sorry to read about your daughter. I didnt know her or know you but I wanted to say thank you for publishing the cause of her death. Addiction is a hard thing to overcome and heroin use is on the rise.Even in small Iowa towns. I pray God gives you the strength you need as you go thru the days and yrs ahead. May she rest in peace.
