Garneta Brunk Obituary
The family will greet friends at a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, at Iles Funeral Home, Westover Chapel, 6337 Hickman Road, Des Moines. A Celebration of Garneta's Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy, West Des Moines with Pastor Mike Householder officiating. Immediately following the service, there will be a luncheon at the church. A private Christian burial of the cremated remains will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Creston, Iowa at a later date.
Garneta was born on November 4, 1933 in Creston, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Fannie (James) Derauf. She was raised in Creston and graduated from Creston High School and Community College. She married Franklin D. Brunk on September 18, 1953 and to this union was born a son, Scott.
Throughout her life, Garneta enjoyed her art, music, flowers, church work, and golf.
Preceding her in death are her parents, four sisters, and three brothers. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank; son, Scott (Jennifer); three grandchildren, Maggie, Andrew, and Kate; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Health Hospice or Lutheran Church of Hope.
