Dorothy Hussey, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2011, in Granger. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayne, on March 8, 1999. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, at Assumption Church in Granger, where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Cremation will follow visitation and a memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 11, at Assumption Church in Granger. Private burial of the cremated remains will be held at a later date at Pine Hill Cemetery in Des Moines.
Dorothy was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on April 14, 1923 to James and Josephine Martin, Sr. She enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1943 where she met her future husband, Wayne. They moved to Des Moines after serving in the Marine Corps where they raised their three children. Dorothy worked for the Department of Internal Revenue Service as a tax preparer. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dorothy was active in the past at Visitation Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda (Ron) Blair of Granger, Wayne (Diane) Hussey, Jr. of Frisco, Texas, and Kathy Hussey of Granger; five grandchildren, Joseph Blair of Des Moines, Nicole (Jack) Williams of Cedar Park, Texas, Matthew (Brandy) Hussey of Columbus, Georgia, Mike Hussey of Durham, North Carolina, and Stephanie Hussey of Dallas, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Jackson Blair of Des Moines, Kate Williams of Cedar Park, Texas and Charlee and Brewer Hussey of Columbus, Georgia; and her siblings, James Martin, Jr. and Helen Thomas, both of Phillipsburg, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her sisters, Alice Hall and Marie Beatty.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa or Assumption Church in Granger.
