John W. McKay

John passed away on September 26, 2011, at the age of 79 at his Scottsdale, AZ home after a year of illness.
He grew up on a farm outside of Delhi, MN, the youngest of three children. John attended Belleview High School and graduated in 1950. He was baptized in the Delhi Presbyterian Church. On December 13, 1952, John married Marlene Schmiesing in the Johnsonville Lutheran Church near Lucan, MN. He served in the US Army for two years and then settled into farming near Holloway MN for six years. He then joined DeKalb Ag Research where he worked as a District Sales Manager and later as a Regional Sales Manager. His journey with DeKalb Ag Research started in Mankato, MN, then Alexandria, MN, Beatrice, NE, Storm Lake, IA, and finally London, OH. Later, John went to work for Garst Seeds in Stockton, CA. At age 59, John donated a kidney to his daughter at UCSF in San Francisco, CA. During his retirement years he lived on a farm near Redwood Falls, MN, Okoboji, IA and was recently splitting his time between Scottsdale, AZ and Urbandale, IA. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors Include: Wife of 60 years Marlene Schmiesing McKay of Lucan, MN, daughter Jolene and her husband Gary Voorhees of Scottsdale, AZ, son David and his wife Mary McKay of Urbandale, IA. Grandchildren Corey (and wife Michele) of Des Moines, IA, Maggie McKay of Albuquerque, NM and Colin McKay of Urbandale, IA,
sister Mavis Hoffman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mabel and Wesley McKay and sister Betty Siegfried.
