Tawny Jo Laughery Stetzel of Guthrie Center, Iowa lost her courageous seven-year battle with cancer at Iowa Methodist Medical Center on Sunday, October 30, 2011.

Tawny was born on April 4, 1967 to Jim and Mary Jo Laughery in Guthrie Center. She graduated from Guthrie Center Community Schools in 1985 and furthered her education at Des Moines Area Community College receiving a degree as a Medical Lab Technician. Tawny worked 13 years at the Guthrie County Hospital and served as the lab manager.

She was united in marriage to Keith Stetzel on November 12, 1988. To this union three sons were born, Tate, Clay and Cole. She took great joy in following her sons' activities, and you could hear her cheering them on in whatever sport they participated, especially wrestling!

She was a lifelong Guthrie Center Tiger fan and very active in the local booster club. As a family, they were enthusiastic Nebraska Husker fans. Tawny looked forward to spending time with family and friends whether it was camping, playing cards, or celebrating birthdays. She loved all her boys, and she was truly their hero!

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Guthrie Center and an associate member of Bowman Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Guthrie Center. She was a Past Matron of Gleaner's Chapter of OES, a member of the Guthrie County Pork Producers, and the Guthrie Center Booster Club. Throughout her illness, Tawny remained positive and made everyone feel special with her infectious smile. Her abiding faith kept her strong and guided her journey.

Tawny is survived by her husband Keith, sons, Tate, Clay and Cole; her parents Jim & Mary Jo Laughery of Guthrie Center; mother-in-law Audrey Stetzel of Guthrie Center; her brother Terry, wife Linda and family of Guthrie Center; sisters-in-law Karen Benton, husband Scott and family of Guthrie Center; Lori Meinecke, husband Steve and family of Perry; brother-in-law Doug Stetzel, wife Martha and family of Perry. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends. Tawny was preceded in death by her father-in-law, William Stetzel, grandparents Lloyd & Ila Laughery and Ralph & Jody Stringer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.
