Barbara Kincaid Obituary
Barbara Kincaid

On April 27, 2012, our loving Mother, Sister, Grandma and Great-Grandma, Barbara Jean Kincaid passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Barb was born on June 19, 1928 to Carrie Mae and Fred Horner in Johnston, IA. She grew up on the family farm and was the baby of ten kids (nine girls and one boy). Barb attended Johnston High School and loved the game of basketball, playing all four years. After High School, she attended AIB and received a two-year degree.

Barb married her husband of 58 years, Richard Bernell Kincaid on January 30, 1948. Together they had two daughters, Jill Elaine Vento (Don) and Toni Marie Humphreys (Jeff). In addition, they had five grandchildren, Danielle Hopkins, Samantha Hopkins, Justin McCormick, Tyler McCormick and Jordan Humphreys; and two step-grandchildren, Josh Vento and Dillon Vento. Barbara also boasts four beautiful great-grandchildren, Jayden, Ryker, Peyton and Chloe. Barbara Jean loved the grand kids. Besides her daughters and grandchildren, Barb is survived by one sister who she was very close to and loved dearly, Virginia Shiffer of Grimes, Iowa.

Over the years, Barb spent many hours sewing and reading. She made many outfits over the years and loved to cross stitch baby blankets for the family. She loved to camp and spent many weeks at Lake Okoboji with family sitting around the campfire laughing and relaxing. Barb was strong willed even in her later years.

Barbara spent her last five years in the assisted living unit at Ramsey Village where she was cared for and befriended by many great, devoted people. She loved it there and became a favorite of those that cared for her. The family extends great gratitude to the staff at Ramsey for the outstanding care they gave Barb for many years.

Funeral services will be held at Iles Westover Chapel in Des Moines on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., also at Westover.

The family would like to personally thank the staff at Johnston Hospice for their loving care and compassion towards Barbara and the family. If you wish to make memorial contributions, please direct to Mercy Hospice - Johnston.
