Susan E. Christiansen

Susan E. Christiansen, 66, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away July 6, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born July 11, 1945 to Claude J. and Darlene M. Coker.
Susan graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1963 and Ottumwa Heights College in 1965 with an Associates Degree. Her career began at Northwestern Bell Phone Company in Directory Assistance in Burlington, Iowa. The phone company changed to US West in 1984. She had a variety of clerical support jobs while working at the phone company and worked in several different cities. Susan retired from the Des Moines area in 1995. Her favorite job was in the engineering department at the phone company.
She was married on June 20, 1998 to Paul Christiansen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Virginia until moving back to Iowa in 2000.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Tiffany Lee VanLandingham. She is survived by her husband, Paul Christiansen of Ankeny, her son, Casey VanLandingham of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Ann Wilkerson (Bob) and Deborah Poole-Burns (Jeff); her brother, Tim Coker (Cathy) all of Ottumwa; stepchildren, Erik Christiansen (Sherrie), Andy Christiansen and Anna (Brian) Hammond of St. Louis, Missouri; along with many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Memorial services will be 12 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Hamilton's near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Friends may visit with family from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, July 9 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Susan.

To Paul, Casey and the extended Christiansen-Coker families, while I have no words to help ease your pain, I want you to know I care. I've only known Susan for 14 years, but the smiles, laughs and good memories will last a lifetime for me. I will miss her greatly. Love, Light, Peace.
